Sarah  Welch & Michael Schraud

Sarah Welch was first introduced to ceramics in 1990 through a year -long apprenticeship with a traditional master potter in Vienna, Austria. After studying art in Austria and California, Sarah earned her BFA in ceramic/sculpture at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She has shown her sculptural work both nationally and internationally since graduating in 1997. Sarah also enjoys making pottery, where she finds the fusing of beauty with function an inspiring challenge. The long tradition of pottery and its intimate place in daily life inform the artistic choices she makes for her work. Her goal for her pottery is to have the pieces used not only for the way they look but also the way they feel.  Sarah has her studio in Jaroso, Colorado.

Michael Welch moved to the United States from Vienna, Austria in 1993 where he had apprenticed as a wood turner. He comes from several generations of woodworkers and is proud to carry on the tradition. Michael has over 20 years of experience as a woodworker and more than 15 years as a instrument maker. He sells his furniture, drums and koras nationally through music stores, art fairs, internet and direct sales.
