Biography

I earned my BFA from the University of Kansas. Worked in Los Angeles as a package designer for many years developing contacts and experience in the commercial art industry. After starting my own graphic design and illustration business, I branched into scratchboard as fine art. Currently, I am represented by the Tamarack Gallery in the Traverse City area of Michigan and the Taos Artist Co-op.

My black & white and color images are carved on clayboard.  Clayboard is a masonite backed board with a fine white clay coating. It can be coated in a top layer of black india ink or color dyes. Sharp tools are used to scrape thru the top coat pigment to help create an image. I also sometimes scan the black and white image into the computer and use software programs to add color for my commercial work.
